Knowledge Games
Constructive knowledge games bring human players to information-based problems. As such, they lend themselves to Internet-browser based distribution. They typically involve pattern recognition and or classification tasks.
So far, info-games seem to primarily benefit computer science by bringing human intelligence to domains that still stump computers. Generically, info-games help computer systems make sense of complex data types like audio and imagery, to achieve:

Citizen Science: Galaxy Zoo
Galaxy Zoo is a collaboration of Oxford University, Portsmouth University, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University and Fingerprint Digital Media, Belfast. Galaxy Zoo has "partnered" with citizen astronomers from around the world to classify galaxies. Surprisingly, software and computers are still no match for the subtle pattern recognition sought by researchers in this field.

ESP
Google's Image Labeler (aka "ESP") is another constructive game that leverages human pattern recognition. In this case, the game is to correctly label images in a timely way. By repeatedly exposing images to online players, Google builds a list of keywords for those images that are derived from the masses, a "
folksonomy
". Since Google's objective is to provide text based pattern matches to images for this community, the "game" pushes the work to the community.
Google has gone quite a ways to incorporate game features, including cooperative multi-play, a timer and scoreboards. The effort has paid off in over ?? images tagged as of August, 2008.
